Basil leaves
- Fresh
- Non-alcoholic
Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is an aromatic herb of the Lamiaceae family, native to tropical regions from Central Africa to South-East Asia; in the West the usual choice is sweet basil of the Genovese type. The leaves have a fresh, sweet and slightly peppery scent. In cocktails they are muddled in the shaker to release their oils and green colour, as in the Gin Basil Smash, while a sprig serves as garnish.
