Cherry liqueur
- Liqueurs
- Alcoholic
Cherry liqueur, often called cherry brandy, is made by macerating cherries, sometimes with their stones, in neutral spirit or brandy and then sweetening it; some versions are matured in oak with herbs and spices. It is a sweet, deep-red liqueur tasting of cherry jam with a faint almond note from the stones. It should not be confused with kirsch, a dry, unsweetened spirit. In cocktails it adds colour and roundness to drinks such as the Singapore Sling and the Remember the Maine.
Strength: usually 24% ABV (legal minimum 15%).
Also known as: Cherry Heering, Cherry brandy
