Hot coffee

- Non-alcoholic
The hot coffee used in cocktails is a long, brewed coffee, such as filter coffee, served piping hot and in a larger quantity than espresso. It is the base of the Irish Coffee, which combines coffee, Irish whiskey and sugar beneath a layer of cream. Tradition has it that the drink was born in the 1940s at Foynes, in Ireland, where chef Joe Sheridan added whiskey to coffee to warm flying-boat passengers. The heat and bitterness of the coffee support the sweetness and the cold cream.
