Islay Scotch whisky
- Spirits
- Alcoholic
Islay Scotch is Scottish whisky distilled on the island of Islay and matured for at least three years in oak casks. It is known for its peaty character: peat smoke, brine, iodine, seaweed and medicinal notes, often with an oily texture. Every distillery on the island makes peated whisky, although some also bottle unpeated malts. In cocktails it is used in small amounts, such as a float, to add smoky aroma, as in the Penicillin.
Strength: usually 43% ABV (legal minimum 40%).
Also known as: Lagavulin 16-year-old Islay Scotch whisky
