Navy rum

Navy rum is a dark, full-bodied British-style rum descended from the daily ration the Royal Navy issued to sailors until 1970. Traditionally it was a molasses-based blend of Caribbean distillates, notably from Guyana, Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad. The flavour is rich and assertive, sometimes funky, and the navy-strength version is bottled at around 54-57% abv. In tropical cocktails such as the Painkiller it gives structure and character that fruit juice and coconut do not smother.
Strength: usually 54.5% ABV (legal minimum 37.5%).
Also known as: Dark navy-style rum, Pusser's Rum
