Orange bitters
- Other
- Alcoholic
Orange bitters are an alcohol-based aromatic cocktail bitters, flavoured mainly with bitter orange peel and rounded out with spices and bitter roots such as cardamom, coriander and gentian. They began as a digestive tincture with a long Dutch tradition, then entered cocktails in the late nineteenth century alongside vermouth. The taste joins citrus and bitterness, with spice notes that vary from brand to brand. A few dashes are enough to lift and tie together vermouth or sherry drinks such as the Adonis, Bamboo and Alaska.
Used in 7 cocktails.
