Red chili pepper
- Fresh
- Non-alcoholic
Red chili pepper is the ripe fruit of plants in the genus Capsicum, native to the Americas and already grown in east-central Mexico some 6,000 years ago. Its heat comes from capsaicin and varies greatly from one variety to another; removing the seeds tones it down and leaves more flavour. In cocktails it is used in thin slices, muddled in the shaker or infused, and often as a garnish too. It is the ingredient that gives the Spicy Fifty its character.
