Redcurrant syrup

Redcurrant syrup

  • Syrups
  • Non-alcoholic

Redcurrant syrup, sirop de groseille in French, is redcurrant juice combined with sugar; commercial products may also contain citric acid and flavourings. The redcurrant grows wild across western Europe, and the syrup already appears in Jerry Thomas's 1862 bartenders' guide. It tastes sweet and tart, of red berries. It was the ingredient of the original Rose, created in Paris with dry vermouth and kirsch.
