The story
Origins
LegendA story passed down, not confirmed by the sources.
Malibu and Cola is a simple bar mix with no known inventor: its story is that of the liqueur that defines it. Malibu was born in the late 1970s; according to Difford's Guide the idea came from three Britons, Peter Fleck, James Espey and Tom Jago, who in 1978 in London developed a coconut-flavoured rum liqueur, first called Coco Rico. The Malibu brand was launched in 1980 with its famous white bottle and palm trees at sunset. For many years it was produced at the West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados. Today the brand itself promotes the pairing with cola, served over ice with lime.
