Agave nectar
- Syrups
- Non-alcoholic
Agave nectar, also called agave syrup, is a sweetener made from the juice of the agave's heart, the piña, which is filtered and heated to turn its carbohydrates into sugars; it is mainly produced in Jalisco, Mexico. It is sweeter than sugar and thinner than honey, with a soft flavour that turns towards caramel in darker grades. It pairs naturally with tequila: in the Tommy's Margarita, born in San Francisco in the late 1980s, it replaces the orange liqueur.
