Black rum
- Spirits
- Alcoholic
Black rum is a dark, full-bodied rum made from molasses, often a blend of aged rums, whose deep brown, almost black colour comes partly from added caramel or molasses. It is medium to full in body, with flavours of treacle, dark sugar, ripe fruit and spice. Its robustness lets it stand up to assertive mixers and spiced ingredients. It is best known as the rum of the Dark 'N' Stormy, where it is poured over ginger beer.
Strength: usually 40% ABV (legal minimum 37.5%).
Also known as: Goslings rum
