Coffee liqueur is a neutral spirit or distillate flavoured with coffee, either cold-brewed or made from beans and espresso, and sweetened with sugar; some recipes add rum, vanilla or cognac. It is dark brown, with a sweet flavour of roasted coffee, caramel and chocolate, and usually sits between 20% and 35% abv. In cocktails it contributes aroma and sweetness to drinks such as the Black Russian, the Espresso Martini and the B-52.
