Cranberry juice comes from the fruit of Vaccinium macrocarpon, native to North America and grown mainly in the United States and Canada. On its own it is very sharp and almost bitter, so it is usually sold as a sweetened drink containing about 28% juice, the rest being water, sugar and other juices. It gives drinks a red colour and a tart berry note. It is the key ingredient of the Cosmopolitan, the Sea Breeze and the Sex on the Beach.
