Hazelnut liqueur
- Liqueurs
- Alcoholic
Hazelnut liqueur is made by infusing or distilling toasted hazelnuts in alcohol and then sweetening the result; some recipes add vanilla, cocoa or coffee. The best-known style comes from Piedmont, but it is also made in France and Spain. It tastes sweet and toasty, with notes of biscuit, nuts, toffee and chocolate. In cocktails it works well with cream, coffee and chocolate, and pairs with fuller spirits such as whisky and brandy.
Strength: usually 20% ABV (legal minimum 15%).
Also known as: Frangelico
