The story
Origins
ProbableA plausible account, without definitive proof.
The IBA Tiki is one of the youngest cocktails on the official list. According to the sources consulted, it was created in 2022 by Cuban bartender Diosmel Mendoza Medrano at El Polinesio, the tiki-style venue of Havana's Habana Libre hotel, which housed a Trader Vic's in the 1950s. The drink was devised for the 69th IBA World Cocktail Championship, hosted by Cuba in November 2022, as a tribute to the association: hence the name. The recipe explicitly calls for products of the event's sponsors, Havana Club rums and Luxardo maraschino. It joined the official IBA list with the 2024 revision.
