Irish whiskey
- Spirits
- Alcoholic
Irish whiskey is a spirit distilled from malted cereals, sometimes with unmalted ones, produced and matured on the island of Ireland for at least three years in wooden casks. Many distilleries triple-distil in copper pot stills, giving a light spirit and, in pot still styles, a creamy texture. The taste is soft and round, with fruit, honey and wood notes. In cocktails it appears in hot drinks like Irish Coffee and in classics such as the Tipperary.
Strength: usually 40% ABV (legal minimum 40%).
