Rhum agricole
- Spirits
- Alcoholic
Rhum agricole is rum made by distilling fermented fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses. It comes from French territories, chiefly Martinique, Guadeloupe and Réunion, and from Madeira, and the Martinique style has its own controlled appellation. The blanc is grassy and vegetal, sometimes earthy or showing unripe fruit, while aged versions turn spicier. In cocktails it is the base of the Ti' Punch and many tiki drinks, bringing freshness and a dry character.
Strength: usually 50% ABV (legal minimum 37.5%).
Also known as: Martinique rhum agricole, Rhum agricole blanc
Used in 2 cocktails.

Cachaça works
Cachaça is also distilled from cane juice and keeps the grassy tone; the drink is similar but usually a little less dry and complex.
