A.P. Ronik, aperitif cocktail. Glass: Rocks glass

A.P. Ronik

Aperol, tonic and lime.

A light, sparkling aperitivo: Aperol lengthened with tonic water over muddled lime. Aperol's bittersweet orange meets the quinine of tonic and the sharpness of lime.

The story

Origins

LegendA story passed down, not confirmed by the sources.

The A.P. Ronik is a little-documented Italian drink built on Aperol and tonic water. According to a cooking blog, the recipe comes from the book Cocktail: i migliori drink per l'happy hour (Giunti Demetra, 2010), where it is said to be proposed by bartender Francesco Mattioli: one third Aperol, two thirds tonic and half a lime muddled in the tumbler. A tutorial video from the Veneto chain City Bar Italia, published in 2012, shows a version with lime juice, Aperol and tonic. No further information was found on its origin or on the meaning of the name.
