Godmother
Sweet, smooth, almond-kissed.
The vodka take on the Godfather: vodka and amaretto over ice. Cleaner and softer, it gives the stage entirely to the liqueur's almond.

The story
Origins
DocumentedOrigin attested by written sources of the time.
The Godmother is the vodka sibling of the Godfather and dates from the same period, the 1970s, in the wake of The Godfather's success; neither its creator nor its original bar is known. The earliest known printed recipes are in Brian F. Rea's Brian's Booze Guide of 1976, with one and a half ounces of vodka and one of amaretto built over ice, and in Jones' Complete Barguide the following year, which uses equal parts. Together with the Godfather and the cognac-based French Connection it forms a small family of two-ingredient drinks built around amaretto. It was on the IBA list until the 2020 revision.
