Amaretto
- Liqueurs
- Alcoholic
Amaretto is a sweet liqueur with an almond fragrance, most often flavoured with oil from bitter apricot kernels, sometimes with roasted almonds, along with vanilla and other botanicals, and coloured with burnt-sugar caramel. The name comes from the Italian word for bitter, a nod to bitter almonds. The taste is sweet and marzipan-like, with a slight bitter edge. In cocktails it softens and perfumes: you find it in the Amaretto Sour, the Godfather and the French Connection.
Strength: usually 28% ABV (legal minimum 15%).
Also known as: Disaronno
