The story
Origins
ProbableA plausible account, without definitive proof.
The Puccini belongs to the Bellini family, the famous prosecco and white peach aperitif born at Harry's Bar in Venice and credited to Giuseppe Cipriani. It follows the same idea, Venetian bubbles and fresh fruit named after a great Italian artist: here the peach purée is replaced by mandarin juice, and the drink pays homage to Giacomo Puccini, the composer of Madama Butterfly. It is popular above all in Venice and northern Italy, and the IBA lists it among the variants on its official Bellini page. We found no reliable source naming its inventor or the year it was created: it is best seen as a variant born of the Bellini's success.
