Aged rum
- Spirits
- Alcoholic
Aged rum is a spirit distilled from sugar cane products, most often molasses, and then matured in oak barrels, which give it an amber or golden colour. Compared with white rum it is rounder and more complex, with notes of vanilla, caramel and light spice. The term is informal: it covers gold and amber rums as well as longer-matured bottlings, and in the EU rum has no mandatory ageing period. In cocktails it adds depth to daiquiris, tiki drinks and rum versions of whiskey classics.
Strength: usually 40% ABV (legal minimum 37.5%).
Also known as: Amber rum, Blended aged rum, Gold Puerto Rican rum, Gold rum, Havana Club Profundo rum
