- Alcoholic
Jamaican rum is a cane spirit made entirely in Jamaica, usually from long-fermented molasses distilled in pot stills. It is among the fullest and most aromatic rums, with pineapple, overripe banana and the character known as 'funk' or 'hogo', which comes from esters. It exists in pale, amber and dark versions, where the dark colour can also come from caramel. In cocktails it adds depth to daiquiris, punches and tiki drinks.
Strength: usually 40% ABV (legal minimum 37.5%).
Also known as: Amber Jamaican rum, Dark rum, Gold Jamaican rum, Jamaican dark rum
