Angostura is a concentrated aromatic bitters based on gentian, herbs and spices, created in 1824 by the German physician Johann Siegert in the Venezuelan town of Angostura as a stomach remedy. Since 1875 it has been made in Port of Spain, Trinidad, to a secret recipe. Its aroma recalls clove, cinnamon, cardamom and orange peel, with a bitter finish. It is used by the dash to add depth to drinks such as the Abbey, the Affinity and the Amaretto Sour.
Strength: usually 44.7% ABV.
