Maraschino liqueur
- Liqueurs
- Alcoholic
Maraschino is a clear liqueur made from marasca cherries, a sour cherry from Dalmatia: the fruit is macerated in alcohol with leaves and twigs, then distilled, and the distillate rests in ash vats before being sweetened. Born in Zadar, it is now made mainly in Italy and Croatia. The nose shows marasca with toasted nut notes; the palate is soft yet firm, little like fresh cherry. It is essential in the Aviation, the Brandy Crusta and the Casino.
Strength: usually 32% ABV (legal minimum 24%).
Also known as: Luxardo Maraschino, Maraschino
