Mezcalibur, aperitif cocktail. Glass: Rocks glass

Mezcalibur

Smoke, pineapple and mint.

The smoky character of mezcal meets the sweetness of pineapple, the coolness of green mint liqueur and the cherry note of maraschino. A short, aromatic and unusual drink whose name plays on King Arthur's legendary sword.

The story

Origins

LegendA story passed down, not confirmed by the sources.

Very little is known about the Mezcalibur. The recipe appears on a few cocktail sites, such as the French Frenchbar, which labels it a "creation", and an Icon Magazine article on mezcal drinks, but no source says who invented it, where or when. The amounts vary too: one version uses equal parts mezcal and pineapple juice, the other slightly different proportions. The name is an obvious pun on mezcal and Excalibur, King Arthur's sword. It is best seen as a little-documented contemporary recipe rather than a classic.
