The story
Origins
ProbableA plausible account, without definitive proof.
Many different recipes circulate under the name Great Gatsby, inspired by Fitzgerald's novel. This version with vodka, Lillet and grapefruit is tied to Highlands Bar & Grill in Birmingham, Alabama, chef Frank Stitt's restaurant, where it is served as a brunch drink. The sources disagree on the author: Difford's Guide credits bartender Matt Gilpin (while mistakenly placing the venue in England), whereas a blog drawing on Serious Eats gives it as Frank Stitt's recipe. Tasting Table speaks only of a bartender in Alabama. No date of creation was found.
