Grapefruit juice
- Juices
- Non-alcoholic
Grapefruit juice is pressed from the fruit, a hybrid of sweet orange and pomelo that arose in Barbados in the eighteenth century. It tastes tart and slightly bitter; the flesh can be white, pink or red, and pink grapefruit is less sour than white and less sweet than red. Recipes often call for it freshly squeezed, sometimes pink, and it gives drinks freshness and a gently bitter edge. It appears, for example, in the Acapulco Gold, the Florida and the Great Gatsby.
