The story

Origins

ProbableA plausible account, without definitive proof.

The Harvey Wallbanger is inseparable from Galliano. It is credited to Donato "Duke" Antone, a bartender and mixology teacher from Hartford, Connecticut, named as its creator in a 1977 Hartford Courant article. The most retold version, in which he invented it in 1952 at the Blackwatch Bar in Hollywood for a surfer called Tom Harvey, is regarded as legend. What is documented is the advertising campaign launched in the late 1960s by McKesson Imports, then Galliano's US importer, led by George Bednar and built around a cartoon character drawn by Bill Young. The drink became a 1970s icon, splashed across T-shirts, mugs and bumper stickers.
