Lemon Drop Martini, aperitif cocktail. Glass: Cocktail glass

Lemon Drop Martini

Bright, lemony, effortless.

Vodka, triple sec and fresh lemon: essentially a vodka take on the Sidecar. Fresh and citrusy, it recalls the lemon candies it is named after and is often served with a sugared rim.

The story

Origins

ProbableA plausible account, without definitive proof.

The Lemon Drop is credited to Norman Hobday, known as "Henry Africa", owner of Henry Africa's in San Francisco, regarded as one of the first and most defining "fern bars", plant-filled venues typical of the era. The exact date is not documented: sources place it loosely between the late 1960s and the 1970s. In essence it is a Sidecar with vodka in place of cognac. The drink also spread thanks to Harry Denton, a former Henry Africa's bartender, who made it a staple of his Starlight Room.
