  • Alcoholic

Triple sec is a clear orange liqueur, made by macerating and then redistilling sweet and bitter orange peels in neutral spirit, with added sugar. It was born in nineteenth-century France, following the Dutch curaçaos, and the origin of its name, meaning 'triple dry', is disputed. The aroma is of clean, fresh orange zest, the taste sweet but lively. It is a mainstay of the bar, appearing in the Angel's Delight, the Angelo Azzurro and the Between the Sheets.

Strength: usually 40% ABV (legal minimum 15%).

Also known as: Cointreau, Orange liqueur
