The story
Origins
DocumentedOrigin attested by written sources of the time.
The Naked and Famous was created in 2011 by Joaquín Simó, an Ecuador-born, Miami-raised bartender, and became known at Death & Co in New York. Simó himself called it the illegitimate child of the Last Word and the Paper Plane, conceived in the mountains of Oaxaca: it borrows their equal-parts structure, using mezcal, Yellow Chartreuse, Aperol and lime. According to Difford's Guide it also appeared on the opening menus of Candelaria in Paris and Teardrop Lounge in Portland. The origin of the name is debated: some link it to a line in a 1996 Tricky song, others to a track by the Presidents of the United States of America.
