The story
Origins
LegendA story passed down, not confirmed by the sources.
The origins of the Angel's Delight are unknown. It belongs to the pousse-café family, layered drinks in which liqueurs of different density are floated over a spoon, starting with the heaviest. The most cited version has four equal layers: grenadine, triple sec, sloe gin and cream on top. There is, however, an entirely different recipe under the same name, shaken with gin, triple sec, cream and a few dashes of grenadine and served in a cocktail glass. No inventor, bar or date was found, nor a verifiable first printed appearance: the sources consulted are recipe sites and local newspaper articles, so the drink's history remains undocumented.
