Caipirissima
The Caipirinha with rum.
The Caipirissima follows the Caipirinha method but swaps cachaça for white rum. Lime muddled with sugar over crushed ice makes a fresh, tart and direct drink, close to a rustic Daiquiri.

The story
Origins
LegendA story passed down, not confirmed by the sources.
The Caipirissima began as a variation of the Brazilian Caipirinha in which cachaça is replaced by rum. There is no recognised creator and no documented date of creation: the sources consulted simply describe it as the rum version of the Brazilian classic, alongside the vodka-based Caipiroska. The swap is thought to have arisen where cachaça was hard to find and rum more common, but this is an unproven assumption. According to Wikipedia the name was registered as a trademark by Bacardi, a claim that could not be verified elsewhere. Difford's Guide calls it a Daiquiri-like drink made in the style of a Caipirinha.
