The story

Origins

ProbableA plausible account, without definitive proof.

The Daiquiri takes its name from a Cuban mining village and, in the most common account, was devised in the late nineteenth century by American engineer Jennings Cox; navy medical officer Lucius Johnson is said to have brought it to the United States. The blended version is credited to Emilio González of Havana's Plaza Hotel, while Constantino Ribalaigua, who ran the Floridita bar for decades, made it famous. As for the frozen strawberry version, its origin is unknown: according to Difford's Guide, the earliest published recipe appears in home economist Mabel Stegner's Electric Blender Recipes (1952), suggesting the drink spread along with the home electric blender.
