Fresh strawberries

The garden strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) is a hybrid that arose in Brittany around 1750 from crossing a North American species with a Chilean one. The fruit is sweet, juicy and fragrant, with fruity notes from esters and lactones. Cocktails call for small, fully ripe berries: they are blended with ice in the Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri, muddled in the shaker for the Muddled Mission or Jamaican Mojito, and a strawberry on the rim works as garnish.
