Simple syrup
- Syrups
- Non-alcoholic
Simple syrup is sugar dissolved in water, the bar's most common sweetener because it blends at once even into cold drinks. The basic version is one part sugar to one part water; the rich version uses two parts to one and is sweeter and fuller, though not twice as sweet. Gomme syrup originally also contained gum arabic for a silkier texture. It appears in a great many cocktails, from the Bramble to the Apricot Flip and the Baltimore Egg Nogg.
