The story

Origins

ProbableA plausible account, without definitive proof.

Credit for the Golden Cadillac is claimed by Poor Red's, a bar in El Dorado, California. According to the bar's account, in 1952 a newly engaged couple asked bartender Frank Klein for a drink to match the gold Cadillac they had just bought. The story is not backed by period documents. Success came as Galliano sales grew in Northern California, prompting the brand to promote the cocktail with an advertising campaign in the 1960s. In 1977 Jones' Complete Barguide printed it as the Golden Cadillac, now the more common name, while Poor Red's still calls it the Gold Cadillac.
