The story
Origins
LegendA story passed down, not confirmed by the sources.
The Strawberry Caipiroska comes from a chain of substitutions. It starts with Brazil's Caipirinha, made with cachaça, lime and sugar; swapping cachaça for vodka gives the Caipiroska, originally also called caipivodka, which some sources say spread across South America as the big vodka brands arrived. Adding fresh muddled fruit was the next step: in Italy the strawberry version became hugely popular in 1990s nightclubs, to the point that many know it better than the original. There is no known inventor and no documented first printed recipe: it is a collective creation of nightclub mixing.
