Tequila

Tequila is a Mexican spirit with a designation of origin, made by fermenting and twice distilling the juice of cooked blue agave hearts (Agave tequilana Weber). The "100% agave" version uses only agave sugars, while standard tequila needs at least 51%. Blanco is bottled straight after distillation, with a clean taste of cooked agave, herbal and lightly peppery. It is the backbone of the Margarita and many citrus drinks, where it carries lime, salt and orange liqueur.
Strength: usually 40% ABV (legal minimum 35%).
Also known as: 100% agave tequila, Blanco tequila, Tequila 100% agave

Mezcal works
The drink gains a smoky note that tempers the citrus and tartness and is less easy-drinking; splitting the base between mezcal and tequila softens it.
